Bertram Field Phase 2: New Design for Review
As announced a few months ago, the bids for the Bertram Field Phase 2 Project came in way over budget. This is in keeping with the trend of municipal project bidding, which has increased everywhere due to the high number of projects happening during what was, up until the COVID-19 pandemic, an economic upturn.
Note: Jenna Ide would like to have a meeting with neighbors in the area to answer questions and listen to any concerns with this design and the project schedule. Please let me know if you are interested in attending this meeting on the Zoom platform. Remember that you use the video conferencing capability of Zoom, or you can call in on your phone. The meeting is being scheduled for sometime in the next few weeks. Email me if you would like to attend: pmorsillo@salem.com
In order to reduce the price of the project, it was redesigned to move all buildings to the Power House Lane side of the field. The following slides are an overview of the new design.
The goals of the project remain the same: creation of a Press Box, Public Amenities (bathrooms), Athletic Changing Facility (locker rooms), Concessions, and an Accessible Entrance to the Athletic Field.
On slide 6, you can see the public entrance is being moved over to the left of the new buildings. The athletic entrance is via the new locker room. The concession stand and the public bathrooms are next to the spectator stands.
There will be an emergency vehicle access gate on the Bertuccio Ave. That is the only item on this side of the field in the plan.
Bidding on the project will begin this month. Construction will most likely begin in July, and use/occupancy is scheduled for December or January 2021.
