The city and region are officially in a “Social Distancing” or “Social Isolation” mode in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of social distancing is to stop the spread of the disease by avoiding public gatherings. This article discusses the idea of flattening the curve of exposure in order to keep our medical facilities from being overwhelmed by the virus.
The City of Salem and the Salem Health Department keep information updated regarding current CDC information and city response. Up to date information can be found at the city website, Salem.com.
Questions about your own health, or symptoms that you may be having should be directed to your healthcare provider. Please do not go to the emergency room with any type of flu or virus symptoms without first calling your physician.
Grocery stores and Pharmacies will remain open during this period of Social Distancing. There is no food shortage. Rumors about store closings are not factual, and only add to unfounded panic.
The Salem Public Library is closed to the public. The library system, North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE), has a new app available for Android and Apple users. From the app, you can search the library catalog, place holds, view your library account, renew items. If you need a library card or have questions, call the Salem Public Library at 978-744-0860.
The Salem Public Schools will be closed for a minimum of two weeks. Free grab-and-go breakfast and lunch is available to all children 18 years and younger. For locations, check www.salemk12.org.
North Shore Medical Center has updated its policies for visitors. If you are planning to visit a patient, please review the new policy.
The Salem Housing Authority has posted an update from Executive Director Kathy Hoog regarding services for residents, especially those who are actively isolating themselves as protection against the virus.
